Party Panic! Devlog: The Making of a Classic Snake Minigame & QuadraPaddle Success

Hey Party Panic! fans,

Chris here!

I'm back with another devlog to update you on my progress! This time, I've embarked on a new journey: creating a 4-player version of the classic snake arcade game. Let's dive into the development process and the challenges I've faced so far.

4-Player Snake Minigame

In this new minigame, four players will battle it out to survive the longest as their snakes grow and the screen fills up with danger. It's been a challenging process, and I've hit several obstacles along the way.

  1. Movement issues: Initially, I tried a free-roaming prototype, but struggled to keep the snake's body in line with its head.
  2. Timed movement: Next, I attempted a timed movement system, which aligned the body pieces nicely but didn't deliver the look I was aiming for.
  3. Smooth movement: Finally, I settled on a smooth movement system that aligns itself each time the snake turns, rounding to the nearest 100 units and centering on that line. It's the best of both worlds!

I still have a lot to do, such as implementing collisions and determining the winner, but I believe the hardest part is behind me. Writing the AI controls will be another challenge, but I'm confident I can make it work.

QuadraPaddle Success

I'm thrilled to report that the QuadraPaddle minigame has turned out great, and I'm very happy with the results. I can't wait for you to experience the fast-paced, competitive action it brings to Party Panic!
